Validation!
Yes, social media CAN validate your business. It’s similar to how a website validates your business. It’s another arm of your online presence. Many consumers expect companies to have a social media presence. We’re not just talking about the big brands (Target, Big 4 Accounting Firms, TimeWarnerCable, Starbucks, etc.). Consumers also expect small businesses to have a social media presence. There are loads of studies on mashable.com and socialmediaexaminer.com about these expectations, so we won’t load up on statistics here.
The point: If you are a small business owner, you should have a social media marketing presence.
CAUTION: DO NOT PASS GO. If you set up social media accounts for your business, but are INACTIVE on them, that’s worse. It’s like having a phone number that has been disconnected on your business card. How do you think that makes you look?
To Review:
- Set up social media profiles for your business
- Be active with those profiles (posting once a week is enough to be considered active)
- BUT, do not set up social media profiles for your business then not use them
OH yeah, and DO NOT put a disconnected phone number on your business card. Or a website address that leads to a “coming soon” or “under construction” landing page. 4Over.com will print 1,000 business cards for $24, which includes shipping. Get new business cards for goodness sake!
