What Would Napoleon Hill Say About Social Media?

Napoleon Hill is famous for books such as The Law of Success and Think and Grow Rich.  Many business owners and professionals have read Hill’s books, but what would he say about social media marketing?  How would he recommend a small business owner use it to market their business?  Here are a few things we think Hill would say about social media marketing:

1.  Plan the work, then work the plan.  This is a saying Hill used throughout his works.  While it holds true in almost every part of business life, it is the FIRST action to take when it comes to social media marketing.  If you’ve heard small business owners say social media doesn’t work for them, you’ve spoken to a small business owner that had no social media marketing plan.  You can achieve many marketing goals with social media.  But first you must know what those goals are, what resources you need to achieve those goals, a plan to achieve those goals, and how that plan will be successfully executed.

2.  Put in the effort, and you will be rewarded.  Hill believed in hard work; it is a recurring theme throughout his publications.  So how does the belief of “hard work pays off” translate to social media marketing?  First, get started.  If you have already started, spend time on the social networking sites becoming comfortable with how they are used.  Then, roll up your sleeves and begin following, connecting, tweeting, liking, posting, responding, and engaging.  Commit to the work, and you will see the rewards.

3.  Learn while you work.  Hill was a believer in constant education.  He also believed that one of the best places to learn was while you were on the job.  Take that mentality and apply it to social media marketing.  While your are on a social network, see how others in your field use social media as a tool to grow their brand and their business.  Make it a goal to learn one new lesson each time you’re on social media networks.  If you do this, you will be more likely to stick with social media and also benefit from its use.

These are just a few items we think Napoleon Hill would say about social media.  What else do you think he’d say?
